The Life Science Quality Control Lab Building is currently under construction on the Merck Group’s site in Darmstadt – a new building that consistently combines sustainability, digitalization and flexible working environments, thus setting new standards for laboratory and real estate projects in the life sciences environment.

In CHEManager, Oliver Starke (THOST Projektmanagement) and Dr. Bernd Essig(SCHOLZE-THOST) explain how a renewable energy concept (including geothermal energy and photovoltaics), a hybrid load-bearing structure made of concrete and wood as well as modular usage approaches are transferred into a stable overall concept. Another focus is the digital preparation of subsequent operation: About us BIM methodology and structured information requirements, relevant building data is built up in such a way that it not only supports planning, but also systematically prepares operation and maintenance management.

At the same time, implementation according to lean construction principles ensures efficient processes, a high level of transparency and closely coordinated routines on the construction site. Early definition of processes, responsibilities and decision-making channels create the basis for reliable control – even under challenging conditions and with parallel planning and execution issues.
