Ground-breaking ceremony for the new
combined swimming pool in Ilvesheim

The official ground-breaking ceremony at the beginning of November 2025 marked the start of a project that the municipality of Ilvesheim has been working towards for a long time: the construction of a new, modern combined swimming pool. Around 80 guests celebrated the start of construction work in Schlossfeld – including Mayor Thorsten Walther, architect Michaela Berkmüller (kplan AG), deputy principal Grit Fahldiek, Tobias Pogadl from the German Red Cross and representatives from the THOST project team: Sabrina Wettstein, Christina Ritz and Selina Michalik.

The idea for a new swimming pool emerged back in 2009 in a community future workshop. It first became concrete in 2014, and the decision in principle was made a year later – confirmed by a referendum. After years of intensive discussions and planning, the excavators are now rolling: a combined swimming pool with indoor and outdoor areas is being built on the site of the former outdoor pool, which was in operation until 2017.

The indoor pool section is due to be completed in 2028. Pupils in Ilvesheim will then be able to take swimming lessons directly in the town again – an important contribution to swimming education and leisure activities.
