Lichtenberg Elementary School in Salzgitter Officially Opened

Home 5 News 5 Lichtenberg Elementary School in Salzgitter Officially Opened

With the opening of the new Lichtenberg Elementary School, the city of Salzgitter is sending a strong message in support of education.

Since late 2021, THOST Projektmanagement has been supporting the project on behalf of the City of Salzgitter by providing Project Controlling and Funding Management services across all AHO phases.

Under the leadership of Marc Grannemann, the focus was on transparently managing costs, schedules, and quality, coordinating communication among all project participants, and providing a solid basis for decision-making to the project committees.

The two-track elementary school was constructed as a two-story, elongated building using conventional construction methods. The new building includes a foyer with recreational areas, eight general classrooms, two specialized classrooms, all-day program rooms, a school library, administrative areas, as well as a cafeteria and kitchen.

From a technical standpoint, the building is also designed to support sustainable school operations: An electrically powered air-to-water heat pump on the roof, photovoltaic modules for generating electricity for the building’s own use, and modern ventilation technology are key features that enhance energy efficiency and indoor comfort.

The funding framework was a key component of the financing: With total construction costs of approximately €13.6 million, the state of Lower Saxony provided about €7.1 million through the Salzgitter Structural Assistance Fund.

The elementary school will begin operating as an all-day school in its new building on August 13, 2026.
