Katharinenhospital Stuttgart: Construction decision made for the next construction phase

The Stuttgart municipal council has cleared the way for the further modernization and financing of the Katharinenhospital. This will modernize and expand the future of healthcare in Stuttgart and the whole of Baden-Württemberg.

Further steps planned include a new central emergency room with helipad, a state-of-the-art central operating theater and two new ward blocks to replace the existing high-rise building. The investment will create modern working conditions and strengthen medical care.

The new Katharinenhospital not only stands for medical progress, but also for sustainable construction. The planned measures include photovoltaic systems, heat pumps, heat recovery systems and intelligent building automation, which optimize energy consumption and indoor climate. Two large rainwater cisterns are used to irrigate the roof and open spaces. Green areas and a new “green gap” to the city garden improve air circulation and help to cool the city center – an important contribution to climate adaptation in Stuttgart’s densely built-up city center.

THOST Projektmanagement has been supporting Klinikum Stuttgart with client representation and Project Controlling services for about two and a half years. The project team works together across locations in Karlsruhe, Freiburg and Stuttgart. The construction decision has now also secured the basis for the coming project years – THOST will continue to support the clinic in the successful realization of this complex major project.
