St. Thomas Morus in Munich-Sendling reopened
After around five years of construction, the parish church of St. Thomas Morus in Munich-Sendling has been ceremoniously reopened. Cardinal Reinhard Marx, Archbishop of Munich and Freising, celebrated a church service to officially hand over the renovated church ensemble. Afterwards, the church foundation invited visitors to view the newly designed parish center.
THOST Projektmanagement was commissioned by the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising to take on the project management and Project Controlling for the extensive project and accompanied the measures from planning to completion. The aim of the project was to restructure and functionally develop the ensemble of church, parish hall and parish office. The aim was to create a lively focal point for the community and the surrounding area. As part of the work, the parish church was extensively renovated. The roof, façade and building services were renewed, as was the listed stained glass façade. Inside the church, a new parish hall was created on an extended gallery, which can be used as a multi-purpose room for events in future. The church tower, which can be seen from afar, also had its roof and façade renovated.
In addition to the church, the entire grounds of the parish center were reorganized. This included the construction of a new kindergarten building, the relocation of the parish office and the renovation of the existing parish hall. At the same time, several sustainable solutions were implemented. There is a photovoltaic system on the roof of the parish hall and kindergarten, the parish center is supplied by the municipal district heating system and the church is cooled by its own cold water well. The forecourt was designed to be climate-adapted and upgraded with tree planting and new recreational areas. The reorganization of the site has also created areas on which new living space can be built in the future.
The reopening has created a new focal point for the community and the neighborhood. THOST would like to thank everyone involved in the project for their successful collaboration.
