THOST supports TAQA Transmission

Digital infrastructure is the foundation of a secure and resilient energy supply. In Abu Dhabi, it is now undergoing comprehensive modernisation: THOST is supporting TAQA Transmission (formerly TRANSCO) in standardising and renewing the digital infrastructure for the United Arab Emirates’ electricity and water supply networks.
As part of a multi-year programme, our ten-member project team is managing key areas of work. Some of the projects are in the initiation phase, while others are already being implemented. The aim is to convert existing analogue and heterogeneous systems into a uniform, powerful and cyber-secure digital infrastructure.
Key components of the programme are the migration of the central telecommunications systems to a modern MPLS architecture and the integration of advanced Substation Control and Monitoring Systems (SCMS). This will sustainably improve the reliability, transparency and dependability of the existing network.
The project is part of the strategic focus on ‘Digitalisation and Resilience’ in the TAQA Transmission Strategy 2025-2030. It makes a decisive contribution to modernising and securing today’s infrastructure as a prerequisite for the further expansion of renewable energies and a long-term sustainable energy supply.
Structured scheduling, cost and interface management are essential, particularly for complex transformation programmes with high security relevance, in order to reliably bring together technical, organisational and regulatory requirements. The programme is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2029. Successful implementation will not only modernise Abu Dhabi’s digital infrastructure but also strategically prepare it for future requirements.
