When renovation sets a precedent

Refurbishments during ongoing school operations are among the most challenging construction tasks for the public sector. At the Aspe school center in Bad Salzuflen, the situation was made even more difficult by the subsequent need to clean up contaminants. In a compact guest article for Kommunal Direkt, Maren Krämer and Roland Rieth show how they worked together with Gebäudewirtschaft Bad Salzuflen to create sustainable structures for the further course of the project. A comprehensive project status analysis was used to identify structural deficits and derive key measures – from realistic scheduling and binding decision-making processes to improved coordination with contractors.

The remediation work will now be carried out in stages over the summer vacations – in parallel with the provision of teaching. Clear structures were also created in advance for the refurbishment of other parts of the building. This is an example of how strategic Project Management can stabilize public refurbishment projects even in difficult situations.
